Potable Water Storage Tank (2010 LGAA)

Village of Evans Mills
County: Jefferson County
Population: Less than 5,000
Village Hall: (315) 629-4753

The NYS Department of Health would not allow any additional growth within or outside the Village of Evan Mills until the water storage tank was replaced. As a result, a housing project was put on hold until the tank was addressed. The former tank had severe corrosion and stability issues and the NYSDOH required the Village e to replace it.

Through prudent planning, rate structure, and asset management, the Village was able to invest $1 million in a new water tank without outside subsidized financing or grants and a Village user rate of less than $350/year. The Village selected an elevated water storage tank which does not need to be painted, and the Village relies on only one tank for water storage. The Village can utilize the new tank for growth within and outside the Village limits. The elevated tank provides more consistent pressures within the Village and town Water District, and it also provides a greater volume of useable water for fire fighting needs. A mixing system within the new tank will also provide greater turnover and overall water quality.
