The position serves as part of the City's Management Team and reports to the City Manager. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of municipal law experience and must be an attorney in good standing in the State of New York, admitted to practice in New York State Courts and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. The position manages and oversees the municipal law office, including preparing local laws; prosecuting/defending in-house litigation; negotiating and preparing development contracts; negotiating union contracts; preparing bid specifications for public works projects; prosecuting In Rem Tax Foreclosure proceedings; defending real property tax review proceedings (tax certioraris); performing all duties as prosecutor on behalf of the City of Peekskill; liaising with all outside and special counsel; managing all operations of the Office of the Corporation Counsel; and providing legal opinions, counsel and support to the Mayor and City Council and all City departments.
